I wanted to attend the demonstration in Austin... But not wanting to go alone that far away I found a local one (thru unitedforpeace.org) and went there today. About 20 people showed up -- being a town very close to the largest military base in the United States proved to be more than I had expected. At the demonstration one lady had a sign that said,"honk for peace" which was great because when someone honked it helped our morale... But soon and through the 2 hours I was there, many people rolled down their windows yelled at us in opposition with quotes such as, "if you like iraq why don't you live there!", "f*** you", and countless people showed us their middle finger. Several people stopped their car in traffic just to roll down their windows and yell at us. Three stopped, got out of their car and came over to insult and scream at us.... On the good points there were some people that smiled backed or honked in support... And it's amazing what giving someone a smile and the peace sign will do if they agree with you :) A camera crew from the news came also and actually captured on film the exchange of words between one on the people that came over to us... And to my suprise I actually opened my mouth to say something to them. I'm glad I went. I think we all have a right to express our opinions and this isn't a simple situation. There is a lot to learn and consider, I just hope the world is listening and thinking on their own as well...
